About
This site aims to educate people about their rights and responsibilities when dealing with a homebuilder who is highly distressed or has gone bankrupt. If you’ve bought a home, or are considering buying a home, from a bankrupt homebuilder, you need to educate yourself on the issues that will affect you, such as whether your deposit is safe from the homebuilder’s creditors, especially the banks.
You’re still going to need a lawyer at some point, but we want you to use your really expensive time with him/her wisely. Do some research - know what important questions you should ask your lawyer, and the kind of data and information you should gather.
Among our contributors, we have volunteers and employees who used to be attorneys and bankers, and we feel very strongly that in this current time, people should not be losing out simply because they were not well-informed about what happens during a corporate bankruptcy process.
Please take your time to explore our site, or to search it for exactly what you need to know. We are also coming with a series of books on these topics very soon, and if you found our site useful, we hope you’ll buy it!
Finally, feel free to post comments and ask questions. You can also reach me at adria@homebuilder-bankruptcy.com.
Sincerely,
Adria
PS. It should be clear that we’re just an educational site, but our lawyers tell us we have to emphasize that information on the website is not legal advice or a substitute for legal counsel.
PPS. We also have a sister site - The Downturn Analyst - a provider of Premium Research Reports where our team of former attorneys and financial analysts undertake in-depth analysis of court filings of bankrupt home builders to address questions like: What’s going to happen to this builder? How does the resolution of 1 builder’s case be used as a precedent for another current case?
